AEW recorded the March 8th episode of AEW Collision from the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California, on March 5th. On Saturday, fans will witness Momo Watanabe’s second AEW match. Her debut took place at Forbidden Door 2024, where she teamed with Kris Statlander but lost to Willow Nightingale and Tam Nakano. Watanabe, a 24-year-old STARDOM veteran with ten years of experience, has been wrestling since she was 14. She is a former partner and stablemate of WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY.
In other matches, The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and HOOK) defeated Titus Alexander, Starboy Charlie, and Jack Banning. The Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) secured a victory against Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari. Post-match, The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and MVP) appeared on the ramp, engaging in an intense staredown with their challengers.
Last week, Queen Aminata’s victory may have been strategically aided by The Professor’s gameplan. Fans can expect a final angle during or after Watanabe’s match, possibly involving Mercedes Mone, who previously pie-faced Watanabe at Grand Slam. Watanabe and Mone have history, having clashed at NJPW’s Capital Collision last year for the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship. Against Serena Deeb, Watanabe will showcase her concussive kicks and technical prowess, though it won’t be an easy match.
The history between Daniel Garcia and Lee Moriarty will also be highlighted. Both, along with Wheeler Yuta, were rising indie stars before joining AEW. Bryan Danielson once named them as future technicians who needed guidance from him and Jon Moxley. While Yuta and Garcia gained prominence in the Blackpool Combat Club and Jericho Appreciation Society, Moriarty made his mark in The Firm and ROH. Moriarty’s abilities cannot be ignored, as seen in his near-upset of Garcia during a three-way TNT championship match.
