During the October 5th 2024 AEW Collision tapings from the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, Tony Khan addressed the crowd with exciting news, proudly announcing that AEW had secured a major new media rights deal. This multi-year partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, valued at $185 million over three years (with an option for a fourth), marks a significant milestone in AEW’s growth. The deal includes on-demand access to AEW’s shows, further expanding its presence and media reach. AEW has flourished over the past five years, bringing in top talent and refining its production, and this new agreement solidifies its position as a dominant force in professional wrestling. The tapings featured several standout matches. Willow Nightingale defeated Trish Adora, and after the match, Mariah May attempted to slap Willow, leading to a brief brawl before May retreated. Darby Allin then defeated Johnny TV and issued an open challenge for WrestleDream, but as he left the ring, he was attacked on the stage by Brody King. Christian Cage, flanked by the Patriarchy, appeared and claimed to be the reigning AEW World Champion, though he refused to sign for a title match that night, instead revealing that Nick Wayne would be competing.
In other matches, The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy and Kyle O’Reilly) defeated The Premiere Athletes (Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari), with ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe coming out to handle interference from Josh Woods. Kris Statlander picked up a victory over Zoey Lynn, followed by an appearance from Mercedes Moné and Kamille, who asserted their dominance over the women’s division by laying out Lynn. In the main event, Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) emerged victorious in a triple threat tag match against The House of Black (Malakai Black and Brody King) and Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin). With AEW’s future now secured through its Warner Bros. Discovery deal, fans can look forward to even more exciting developments in the coming year.
