NJPW Capital Collision 2024 is set to air live on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 7 PM ET from the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. This event marks another significant step in New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s expansion into the United States. The night’s main event will feature Mercedes Moné defending her NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship against Momo Watanabe. Other stars such as Zack Sabre Jr., Tetsuya Naito, and Mina Shirakawa are also slated to compete.
Mercedes Moné, in her first defense of the NJPW STRONG Women’s title she captured at Forbidden Door, will take on Momo Watanabe. Watanabe, representing the newly rebranded faction H.A.T.E (formerly Oedo Tai), is under pressure to bring gold to her group after a series of disappointing performances in STARDOM’s 5 Star Grand Prix. With H.A.T.E’s leader Natsuko Tora reigning as World of STARDOM Champion, Watanabe has vowed to claim the NJPW STRONG title in the United States. Meanwhile, Moné, who recently defended her AEW TBS Championship against Britt Baker at Wembley Stadium, faces the challenge of balancing multiple titles as she squares off against Watanabe in Washington, D.C.
Additionally, NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd will put his title on the line against Lio Rush. Kidd, who recently issued a challenge to Rush at Fantasticamania USA, aims to solidify his reign by taking on one of Washington D.C.’s own. Rush, who recently reemerged in NJPW at Resurgence in California under his “Blackheart” persona, will look to reclaim his place in the junior heavyweight division. Kidd, who has embraced defending his title in hostile environments, faces a significant test in Rush, whose inner demons have fueled his return to the ring.
