The 34th G1 Climax is heating up as we reach Night 15, where the final spots in the A Block Playoffs will be determined. Zack Sabre Jr. has already secured his place in the playoffs, but four other wrestlers—EVIL, Great O-Khan, Shingo Takagi, and Tetsuya Naito—are battling for the remaining two spots. The stakes couldn’t be higher as we find out who will advance!
The night started with a match that had no bearing on the tournament standings, as both competitors were already eliminated. Despite this, the bout between Callum Newman and Gabe Kidd was an entertaining contest, lasting about six minutes. Newman gained the upper hand early with a series of dives to the floor, but once they returned to the ring, the match became an even affair. Kidd eventually put Newman away with two consecutive piledrivers, followed by a vicious post-match assault, including a DDT onto a chair.
With Zack Sabre Jr. locking in the #1 seed, the final three matches of the night featured four wrestlers vying for the last two spots in the A Block Playoffs. Shingo Takagi needed a win in his bout against Jake Lee, along with either Naito or EVIL losing, to advance. Although Jake Lee could have reached ten points with a win, he was essentially playing the spoiler, as tiebreakers wouldn’t work in his favor. The match was a solid encounter, with plenty of back-and-forth action, especially in the second half. Shingo countered Lee’s Face Break Shot with a Death Valley Driver, followed by a superplex that led to a closing strike exchange. Shingo ultimately secured the win with a short Pumping Bomber and cradled Lee tight for the pin. Lee, true to form, responded with a post-match attack on Shingo, complaining to the referee and the ring announcer, a familiar tactic for him in this tournament. Shingo’s victory put him in prime position to advance, depending on the outcomes of the next two matches.
