Tonight, March 22, 2025, UFC Welterweight contenders Leon Edwards and Sean Brady will face off inside The O2 in London, England at UFC London.
Edwards’ previous five-round loss to Belal Muhammad was a tough one, where “Rocky” appeared off his game and was thrown on his head by an opponent he had tried to dismiss. The silver lining, however, is that Edwards managed to win two rounds despite a poor performance, leaving hope that he can bounce back and regain his momentum. Brady, on the other hand, has done well to recover from his own loss to “The Bully,” securing consecutive wins to prove he’s still a top contender in the division. At 32 years old and approaching his 20th professional bout, Brady is at his peak and ready to make his push for UFC gold.
Edwards has undeniable skill. He’s a talented kickboxer with great form and a variety of dangerous tools, especially in the clinch and at long range. His wrestling is also top-tier, as he became the first Welterweight to figure out how to stop Kamaru Usman’s takedown onslaught and even managed to take him down. However, Edwards’ losses have often been due to his lack of urgency and ring craft. He tends to fight at his opponent’s pace rather than taking control of the fight, leading to closer matches than necessary. He also has a habit of backing himself into the fence, making it harder to defend against strikes and takedowns. If Edwards can be more aggressive, he could solve these problems. Brady is a solid striker, but he lacks power compared to Edwards, who is sharper, more varied, and hits harder. Edwards can push the action and dominate the fight without too much risk. If he pressures Brady and keeps him on the back foot, he’s likely to land powerful shots and avoid the takedowns.
Brady, while a decent striker, is known for his submission grappling. As a chain wrestler with excellent top control, he has become a respectable boxer over the years. However, his path to victory will depend on his wrestling. He’ll need to find success on the feet to keep Edwards honest, but any success he has will be followed by takedown attempts. Brady will likely try to replicate Muhammad’s strategy, using constant pressure and chain wrestling against the fence. A key element of Muhammad’s approach was not allowing Edwards to build momentum—if Edwards landed a good kick or jab, Muhammad kept coming forward and didn’t let up. For Brady, this could be his biggest challenge, as he has never looked entirely comfortable in a firefight. If he’s going to win, he’ll need to take shots and press forward without slowing down, or he risks taking more damage as the fight goes on.
