WWE Crown Jewel 2024 marks the beginning of a brand-new tradition for WWE, where champions from Raw and SmackDown will face off to determine the inaugural Crown Jewel champions in both the men’s and women’s divisions. Taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, this sixth Crown Jewel event introduces special titles for the first time, as announced by WWE’s chief content officer, Paul Levesque, during WWE Bad Blood on October 5. Levesque confirmed that Raw’s world heavyweight champion and women’s world champion will now face SmackDown’s undisputed WWE champion and WWE women’s champion annually at Crown Jewel, with winners crowned as Crown Jewel champions.
Headlining this year’s Crown Jewel, Cody Rhodes and Gunther will compete for ultimate supremacy. Since claiming his title by defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in April, Rhodes has successfully defended it, most recently against Solo Sikoa in a steel cage on *SmackDown*. Gunther, also in his first title reign, took the championship from Damian Priest at SummerSlam and defended it against Sami Zayn on Raw. The women’s title clash will see Nia Jax and Liv Morgan temporarily set aside their long-standing feud, with Jax having claimed her title by winning the Queen of the Ring tournament in Saudi Arabia last year, securing her SummerSlam championship opportunity.
Meanwhile, the *United States* title scene will feature a triple-threat match between Andrade, Carmelo Hayes, and LA Knight, following Knight’s controversial interference as a guest referee during their last match. Nick Aldis, *SmackDown*’s general manager, set the triple-threat match after Knight’s actions. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair will defend their titles in a high-stakes Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match against Damage CTRL’s Kairi Sane and IYO SKY, NXT’s Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson, and Chelsea Green and Piper Niven.
In other anticipated matches, Seth Rollins will seek revenge on Bronson Reed after a brutal attack sidelined him for weeks, with Adam Pearce officially setting the bout for Crown Jewel. Randy Orton will also face Kevin Owens, who turned on Orton’s former tag partner. After initial hesitation, Paul Levesque granted Orton his request to settle the score.
