The first Friday Night SmackDown of 2025 will air live from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, on January 3 2025. This special three-hour episode marks a significant milestone for the Blue brand, as it transitions to a new format that promises even more electrifying action and entertainment.
This highly anticipated show kicks off a pivotal year for WWE, which includes major changes like the debut of Monday Night Raw on Netflix and a broader shift from cable to streaming. WWE’s move to Netflix, set to begin on January 6, will allow the company to bring its programming to audiences in multiple countries, including the United Kingdom.
The January 3 SmackDown will feature some of WWE’s biggest stars, including Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax, LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, and Kevin Owens. Fans are in for an action-packed night as the Stamford-based promotion begins 2025 with a bang.
One of the night’s key matches will see WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax defending her title against Naomi, who has stepped up to the challenge in place of the injured Jade Cargill. Naomi, now one-half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Bianca Belair, will look to make a statement against the dominant Jax.
In another featured match, United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura will take on Andrade in a non-title bout. The match was set up during last week’s show, where Andrade appeared in a video package, warning Nakamura that his mind games wouldn’t work. Andrade vowed to expose Nakamura when they meet in the ring, making this a highly anticipated clash.
The inaugural three-hour SmackDown episode is poised to deliver an unforgettable start to the year with its stellar lineup and thrilling matchups.
