This week’s Friday Night SmackDown is the final Blue brand event before the Crown Jewel 2024 PLE in Saudi Arabia. With many WWE stars already en route to Saudi Arabia, this episode was pre-taped at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center following the October 25 show. The lineup includes top stars like Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Randy Orton, and Bianca Belair, as SmackDown continues to build the storylines leading up to Crown Jewel.
The night kicks off with Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins of The Street Profits, joined by B-Fab, taking on Elton Prince and Kit Wilson of Pretty Deadly. Recently, The Street Profits missed their chance to become number-one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship, and they’ll be looking to regain momentum here.
Next, the team of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill prepares for their upcoming WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship defense at Crown Jewel in a Fatal 4-Way against Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane, Chelsea Green and Piper Niven, and Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson. Ahead of this major event, one member from each team will face off in a singles Fatal 4-Way on this episode of SmackDown, adding fuel to the competition before their showdown in Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan will square off against WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax in a “Champion vs. Champion” match preview ahead of their clash for the inaugural Crown Jewel Championship. In a strategic move, Money in the Bank winner Tiffany Stratton is scheduled to face Liv Morgan as well, hoping to soften up the champion for her friend, Nia Jax.
On the tag team side, Naomi and Candice LeRae battled on last night’s SmackDown until Indi Hartwell attempted to interfere, targeting Naomi. This interference drew out Bayley, who rushed to Naomi’s aid, leading to a tag team match set for November 1 between the two teams.
Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso will deliver a promo together, marking a reunion of the original Bloodline. Last week saw them reunite to counter Solo Sikoa’s interference during the WWE Tag Team Championship match, and this alliance will be crucial as they prepare to take on Solo’s faction at Crown Jewel.
The main event sees Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes facing WWE Heavyweight Champion Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser from Imperium. This match was arranged after Gunther and Kaiser’s backstage attack on Rhodes, with Orton stepping in to even the odds. Rhodes and Gunther are set to face off at Crown Jewel, with Orton seeking vengeance in a separate grudge match against former ally Kevin Owens.
