As 2024 comes to a close, WWE is wrapping up the year with two live episodes of its flagship brands, culminating with the December 27 2024 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The Blue brand’s final show of the year will broadcast live from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, promising a star-studded lineup and major storylines to end the year on a high note.
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax, LA Knight, Tiffany Stratton, and several other top stars are set to appear. During the WWE Holiday Tour stop in Jacksonville on December 26, Cody Rhodes made a surprise announcement confirming his participation on SmackDown in Tampa. Rhodes has been absent since his successful title defense at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where Kevin Owens attacked him post-match with a package piledriver, causing an injury that kept him temporarily out of action.
Last week’s episode of SmackDown featured an intense six-man tag team main event, where The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, and Tama Tonga) defeated LA Knight, Apollo Crews, and Andrade. United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura played a pivotal role, interfering in the match to attack LA Knight and assist The Bloodline in their victory. Kevin Owens appeared in a video segment holding the winged eagle belt, issuing a dire warning to WWE management. Drew McIntyre also continued his revenge tour against The Bloodline, confronting Solo Sikoa and declaring him his next target.
The Women’s Tag Team Champions, Bianca Belair and Naomi, successfully defended their titles against WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax and Candice LeRae. Meanwhile, Carmelo Hayes secured a count-out victory over Braun Strowman in a rematch fueled by their heated exchange on the Grayson Waller Effect. In another highlight, Johnny Gargano defeated Alex Shelley in a singles match, though interference from Tommaso Ciampa and Chris Sabin added layers to the ongoing feud.
A dark match is scheduled for tonight, featuring ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso squaring off against Chad Gable, the leader of the American Made faction. While both competitors are primarily associated with Raw, recent reports suggest that Gable, along with his faction members the Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile, could be moving to SmackDown in the New Year.
With a packed card and plenty of surprises teased, the December 27 episode of SmackDown is shaping up to be a thrilling conclusion to the year for WWE’s Blue brand.
